On April 10, 1964, the Laurel Golf Association was formed to construct the Cedar View Country Club Golf Course. With the backing of C.W. and Bill Fahnestock, shares were sold and it was handled through the bank. Six hundred seventy shares were sold at $4.00 a share (some in blocks of eight) by Jim Dalton, Mick Dalton and John Calcavecchia. Sixty acres of land were purchased from Roscoe and Eva Dempster. A par 36 for nine holes were laid out by Leo Johnson of Sioux City, IA. He constructed a watering system and also gave landscaping ideas. Liberty High School, which was located about two miles west of Pleasant Valley, was purchased and moved to the site to become the Club House. Located at 101 Calcavecchia Drive in Laurel, the nine hole golf course has had many improvements over the years, the grounds have become a beautiful place with many trees and excellent caretaking.
