Providence Medical Center

Providence Medical Center

Providence Medical Center (PMC) was constructed in 1975 and is located at 1200 Providence Road in Wayne, Nebraska.

Since 1975, PMC has expanded to include a new education wing in 1988, a $1.1 million clinic wing which was dedicated in 1995, and an outpatient services wing dedicated in 2000.

Today, Providence Medical Center is a Critical Access 25-bed, non-profit hospital which remains one of the best small, rural hospitals in northeast Nebraska, employing nearly 200 individuals, and providing state-of-the-art healthcare to more than 15,000 area residents.  PMC offers acute, skilled/swing-bed care, as well as Medicare certified Home Health, Hospice and private pay Personal Care.  Palliative Care is also available.

PMC is close to home for its patients, who usually live within a fifty-mile radius of Wayne.  At PMC patients and family members alike find a smart, dedicated, caring workforce that is armed with some of the latest technology available.

The surgical department is second to none and is equipped with the newest standard in todays operating room.  The surgical suite was recently remodeled, increasing the size by 25%. We believe that our patients deserve convenience, comfort and top-of-the-line health care. We have put them and their families first in planning this project, said Surgery Supervisor, Karlene Meyer RN. We are excited about having room to add total joint replacements, laparoscopic, urology and gynecologic procedures, she said.

MRI has a permanent home at PMC, offering MRI scans Monday through Friday during regular business hours.  The Magnetic Resonance Imaging equipment is located in the hospital Outpatient Services area.  Our patients benefit greatly from the convenience and the excellent image quality and imaging speed.  PMC also offers mobile PET/CT scan services through its affiliation with Northern Shared Medical Services, Inc.  Radiofrequency Ablation for pain management is also available at Providence Medical Center.

If you are seeking a family physician or a specialist, you will find some of the best at PMC. The hospital currently leases space to Faith Regional Health Services, Norfolk, Nebraska for usage by the four local physicians and 3 PA-Cs.  The local physicians and PA-Cs are employees of Faith Regional Health Services and serve PMC as well as the outreach clinics in Wisner, Laurel and Wakefield, Nebraska.  Nearly 1000 patients per month pass through the doors of the Providence Outpatient Services Department which is served by approximately 50 specialty physicians.

PMC offers certain amenities to patients, which set it apart from other rural hospitals in the area, including nicely decorated private rooms, flat screen television, and laptop computers upon request with internet access.  The Providence Wellness Center encourages exercise programs and is available to family members and friends as well as general membership.  The doors to the hospital chapel are always open to visitors.
